I tried to get him to resubmit my order through the phone but was told policy does not allow him to do that. The customer Rep told me that they had them in stock and I should submit a second order as my old order was canceled. So I contact Newegg and was told my order was canceled due to back ordered but the website stated that they had them in stock Friday and again on Monday. I purchased the item on Friday morning hoping to get it shipped out by the end of that business day but on Moday I get an e-mail telling me that the item is backordered and my order has been canceled. The new look of the WD My Book looks really sleek its all glossy black with a single greyish light in the middle it goes really well with my PS3/TV/BR Plyr & LED HDTV.Ĭons: The customer service at Newegg isn't as good. Once my tivo got 75% full it started to slow down so I decided to purchase a expander HD. I purchased a Tivo Premier a few months ago and I was filling up my HD really quickly. Pros: 1TB of space, Sleek look, easy installation. Bad QC let them ship defective $3 cable and caused me to waste 1/2 a day troubleshooting and on the phone. I would have given 1 Egg, but the drive did seem to be working. WD did not have a cable to ship, so they are sending an advanced RMA (they weren't going to pay for return shipping until I asked). Tivo support says that they have had problems when used with cables other than the one shipped with the WD Drive. Tivo did no recognize the drive at all, I tried a new, spare eSATA cable (purchased at the same time I bought the drive after reading reviews here) and although Tivo recognized the drive, when I tried to set it up it was reported as an "incompatible device."Īfter 20 minutes on hold for WD support, we confirmed that the drive was good by connecting it to a PC, but the original cable was defective.
I already have one of these drives that I purchased over a year ago, connected to an existing Tivo. Overall Review: I purchased this for a new Tivo. A single tiny LED to indicate power does not light up my bedroom.

And, since most cable DVR’s have ridiculously small drives, this is a no-brainer of an upgrade. It would be nice if it added to, instead of replacing, but beggars can’t be choosers. In other words unplug this drive and reboot to the original internal drive and all of your previous recordings are still there. The good news is that it replaces, but doesn’t overwrite. One thing to watch out for, at least for DirecTV users (and I have no idea if this applies to other DVR’s) is that this drive replaces the internal drive. I never came close to filling the 500GB drive in my DirecTV HR23.
Although, 1TB is an awful lot of HDTV recording. The capacity has not changed – it’s still 1TB, but I think we can expect that to be expanded on in the near future. This is TiVo’s one and only “official” method of hard drive expansion.
